AITAH for telling my husband's affair baby's family to either come get the kid or I'm calling CPS.

AITA for Refusing to Care for My Husband's Love Child After His Heart Attack?

Am I the jerk for not wanting to take care of a baby that isn't mine after my husband's heart attack?

I (F53) forgave my soon-to-be ex-husband Roger (47) for cheating, but now he's left me with his baby from another woman after she dropped him off at work and vanished.

Our adult kids were unsupportive, so I've decided to divorce Roger and have the baby's grandparents take custody.

"I allowed him to stay so long as I didn't have to do anything. Anything."

Roger's heart attack left him incapable of caring for his child, leading me to make the tough choice to end our marriage.

"I told Roger that I want a divorce... they had until Friday to come get their grandchild or I was calling Child Protective Services."

After the baby's grandparents took custody, I'm moving out with my savings intact, despite backlash from Roger and others.

🏠 The Aftermath

The baby is with his maternal grandparents, and I'm leaving Roger to recover on his own.

I will be moving out of the house, as it's in his name, but I have my own savings and financial independence.

The consequences of my decision have caused tension among family and friends, but I stand by my choice.

"I view that child differently."

While some may see me as cold, I prioritize my own well-being and autonomy above all else.

💭 Emotional Reflection

In this challenging situation, I have chosen to prioritize my own needs and boundaries over societal expectations.

While some may disagree with my actions, I believe that self-preservation is key in maintaining my mental and emotional health.

It's a complex situation with conflicting perspectives, but ultimately, my decision was made with careful consideration.

Considering the responses, opinions on my actions vary:

"You did what you had to do."
"Your well-being matters too."
"It's a tough situation, but you did what was right for you."

Reactions have been mixed, but the prevailing theme is understanding the importance of self-care in challenging circumstances.

🌱 Final Thoughts

In navigating this difficult dilemma, I chose to prioritize my own needs and boundaries, even when faced with judgment and criticism.

Sometimes, making tough decisions is necessary for self-preservation, even if it means going against societal expectations.
