Apparently booking a seat on a train is not a real booking if someone else decides to sit there.

AITA for taking someone's first-class seat on a train after they refused to move from my booked seat?

I was traveling from Edinburgh to London by train and had a booked window seat with a table. However, upon boarding, I found 4 guys sitting at the table, with one in my seat who refused to move despite it being clearly marked as booked.

I asked the ticket collector for help, but the guy in my seat refused to move, claiming the train was packed and he was with his friends.

I explained the situation, highlighting my booked seat, the lack of available seats, and the uncooperative group at the table.

"You can find another seat but I have no power to move him, only the police can, and they won't come just for this," the collector stated.

With no resolution in sight, I made a decision: "I'm going to take a seat in first class for a more comfortable trip with amenities like power sockets and complimentary tea and coffee."

"You can't sit there, you don't have a booking," the collector warned.

I responded, pointing out the irony: "Well, you could call the police to move me, but apparently they won't come just for this."

🏠 The Aftermath

After the ordeal, I enjoyed a pleasant journey in first class with ample space and amenities.

I settled into my upgraded seat, leaving the group behind in the standard carriage.

The consequences of my decision included a more comfortable trip at the expense of potential conflict and confrontation.

Despite the situation, I couldn't help but feel a mix of relief and amusement at the turn of events.

💭 Emotional Reflection

Reflecting on the incident, it's clear that communication and cooperation were lacking between myself and the group at the table.

The decision to move to first class highlighted the importance of asserting my rights and seeking a more comfortable solution.

In situations like these, perspectives and priorities can clash, leading to unexpected outcomes.
