AITA for Refusing to Bring Food to Thanksgiving After a Recent Loss?

Skipping Thanksgiving felt like the right choice after losing my children's mother this year, but my family didn't see it that way.

As the oldest sibling among L (27 F), A (23 M), and T (19 F), I faced a dilemma after my children's mother passed away. Despite no longer being in a romantic relationship, the loss hit hard, especially with my young daughters.

Living in a major city, my siblings L and T were close by, while A and my mom resided two hours away in another state. When Thanksgiving approached, I planned to skip the gathering due to the strain of managing my toddlers and the emotional toll of the recent loss.

"I was happy to accommodate. My mom and A heard about this and were upset."

After sharing my concerns with L and T, they offered to help with the girls and take care of Thanksgiving preparations. L even planned to cook an extra dish, using my kitchen for the larger space.

"I responded that I was an adult and that I would not be attending if I was expected to bring something."

However, when my mom insisted I attend and cook a meal, tensions rose. I stood firm, unwilling to add the stress of meal preparation to an already challenging situation.
